Wouldn't it be great if we all started each new year by sending the people in our lives love cards? This idea may sound a bit out there, but for thirty years from 1970 to 2000, Yves Saint Laurant did exactly that by mailing cartes de voeux out to welcome the new year. These hand-crafted bold and colourful collages were inspired by the things in his life he felt passionately about, like the sun and palm trees of his native Algeria and his bulldog Moujik. Laird Borelli-Persson of Vogue says, "the message, simple and clear, is timelessly appealing." So timeless in fact that, Love by Saint Laurant, a collection of dozens of these mini masterpieces, was reissued in France yesterday, in the spirit of love and just in time for Valentine's Day.
